How to apply for NHS nurse in UK?

How to apply for NHS nurse in UK?
September 1, 2023SCNENHS Nursing

Here are the steps on how to apply for an NHS nurse in the UK:

  1. Check your eligibility to work as a registered nurse in England. You can do this by starting the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) application process and completing their self-assessment.
  2. Complete your English Language (EL) Test and Computer-Based Test (CBT). You don’t need to do this before you apply for a job, but you’ll need to do it before you move.
  3. Choose your application route. You can apply for a job via NHS Jobs, the NHS’s recruitment website, or an agency local to you.
  4. Apply for a job. When you apply for a job, you’ll need to submit your CV, a covering letter, and any other supporting documents that are requested.
  5. Attend an interview. If your application is successful, you’ll be invited to an interview.
  6. Get a job offer. If you’re successful in your interview, you’ll be offered a job.
  7. Apply for a Health and Care Visa. You’ll need to apply for a Health and Care Visa if you’re not a British citizen or a citizen of an EEA country.
  8. Move to the UK. Once you have your visa, you can move to the UK and start your new job.

Here are some additional tips for applying for an NHS nurse in the UK:

  • Start your application early. The NHS is a popular employer, so it’s important to apply early to increase your chances of getting a job.
  • Tailor your application to each job you apply for. Make sure to highlight your skills and experience that are relevant to the specific role.
  • Be prepared to answer questions about your English language skills. The NHS requires all nurses to have a good level of English.
  • Be patient. The application process can take some time, so don’t get discouraged if you don’t hear back right away.
